Re: Leading Volunteers First, Managing Them Second

I think George Patton was echoing the same idea found in this quote.

"If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea." -- Antoine de Saint-Exupery

The Limits Page... a super useful page on the SL Wiki

A little bit of everything, from how high you can fly to how many prims can be in one object, to what the best way to cook a turkey is.... maybe not so much that last one.

Leading Volunteers First, Managing Them Second

"We must become the change we want to see." - Mahatma Gandhi I easily could have titled this article, "Managing Volunteers." I don't believe that you manage' volunteers, I believe you lead' volunteers. There are two kinds of resources for a non-profit, financial resources and hu...

NCI Leadership

So, NCI has a budget of what.... $1500 USD a month or so maybe? Along with various holdings of land, 150 or so people in Staff, and 10,000 people observing/learning/growing in the Main Chat. In SL terms, its 'kind of a big deal', to quote Will Ferrell from his movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burg...

Interesting article on leading volunteers

Supervising volunteers 29 September 2005 by Mary V. Merrill from http://www.worldvolunteerweb.org/resources/how-to-guides/manage-volunteers/doc/supervising-volunteers.html The relationship between the supervisor and the volunteer is critically important. In many programmes the manager of volunteers...

Re: Forum Promotion Proposals

That is a great point, Afon. It wouldn't be considerate to cause anyone to feel left out by any promotional approaches that might be done for the Forum. Do you have any suggestions for how that balance could be maintained, so that people feel welcomed rather than excluded, but still having the Forum...

Forum Promotion Proposals

In case you haven't noticed, we don't see very much chatter on this board. Its mostly a few of the Board of Directors, and a few persistent others. I would like to propose several ideas for promotion, and without objection, just work on implementing them. 1. Mention the forum occasionally on a Main ...

NCI Volunteers Recognition

Post a note about something you saw where a volunteer in NCI did something that really made a difference in a new resident's Second Life.
Please be concise and unless its truly a compelling story, try and keep it simply to the facts. Brevity is beautiful.

Re: Respect

On that note, Loris.... I spoke with Lethe directly, and she and I came to an understanding. Its a great example of how being willing to communicate can lead to more positive outcomes. I can only say that I do truly respect Lethe for being willing to talk and share her thoughts honestly with me, and...

Re: Respect

Then let me reply with something that is not my own words, and hopefully conveys the points better. ------- In a class on negotiations and the impact of power, two students in a mock group negotiation exercise willingly walked out of a profitable deal just so that a stronger member of the group coul...
