Resident Help Network

Post by Tateru Nino »

NCI’s application for the RHN (Resident Help Network) has been approved. That’ll get us a special mark and an entry in the Destination guide ( http://secondlife.com/destinations/howto ) plus additional promotion of NCI to new users.

As a part of this, Linden Lab expects NCI to comply fully with:
And we’re expected to maintain a high standard of correct and up-to-date information. Linden Lab will review our sites, staff and materials occasionally, at random – and we can expect an increase in the number of new users that come our way.

Instructors, there are errors in pretty much every class, from spelling and grammatical mistakes to actually factually incorrect or outdated information. The class kits being held by HeyTeacher Calamity (our class resources account) have all been reworked or are in the process of being reworked. If your class isn’t among them, get someone knowledgeable to read through or edit/review your class materials and notes. A second pair of eyes can really help.

We should be doing this anyway, of course, because helping new users is the key here, right? Circumstances and Second Life change, and we have fallen behind in many cases. Are there handouts that you routinely give out? Check them. I’ve seen handouts that date back to 2003, and don’t contain any correct information. I’ve mistakenly given out dated materials myself.

The NCI Sites/Staff/Land team has already been going over a lot of our campus and infonode materials, reviewing what we make available to new users and checking to see that it is up to date. Please take a little time to make sure that your own information and materials are current, and to look for any NCI stuff that we might have missed in the update. Nobody’s perfect.

All we can do is try, because we're either doing our best to give new users the best and most correct information they can get... or we're not, and if we're not, then NCI is a part of the problem and not a part of the solution.
