Open Casting for NCI Bloggers!

Post by Lethe »

While I’m the administrator for the blog and forums, neither are really mine. I created them as tools for the use of the entire NCI community, and with things settled down I feel like it’s well past time to hand over the blog to the community! This post is an invitation to all NCI members and friends to apply to become a blogger for NCI, to write in this space so people don’t have to read my words all the time.

There are a few basic things we’re looking for:

* A concept: we’re looking for people with a passion for one specific part of NCI or SL, and who can write about that passion. Maybe there’s an event you really like that you could write about from time to time. Maybe you want to write about what it’s like teaching a class for NCI, or blogging as you take every single class NCI has to offer (craziness!).
* Some experience with blogging: You don’t have to be a techno-wizard, but some experience with what blogging means, how to do it, and how to use blogging tools (Wordpress in particular)
* Time and Passion: You don’t have to write every day, or even every week. There’s no word-count or set number of hours you have to put it. But be sure that you have the time to write something you’d be proud of, and have enough material to keep things flowing.

How to apply:

Okay, here’s the important part, right? Just add a post to this thread explaining your concept and a very rough estimate of how often you plan to blog about it. That’s it! And it’ll be an open thread so anyone who doesn’t want to apply can still comment if you really like an idea, or think of another topic that would go well with an idea, or whatever.

I look forward to reading our new blog and hope to see you there!

You got me...

i was a member of the web tutorial team on the old NCI blog site, and I started posting the results of the Blitz builds on the old site before it went down.

I would like to continue posting the results of the blitzes on the new site.

I am interested in writing a series of posts helping new residents find things to do in Second Life®. I've been a resident since 9/14/07 (originally as Lunette Fouroux). I have had some limited experience helping new residents in-world, and to my surprise, one of the most common questions I received was about how to find things to do. Sometimes it is difficult to find things using the Search window alone. Over the years, I've found there are MANY resources (both in-world & off-world) for finding interesting things to do, and I would like to share some with new residents.

Due to time limitations, I think I would only be able to post once a month. I anticipate each post would only be two or three paragraphs in length. I have used WordPress a little bit, and have also used Blogger and LiveJournal.

My full avatar name is Lyncean Luminos. Please contact me via IM or notecard in-world if you need further information. I'm in-world sometime between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. SLT most days.

(I think I'd also be interested in helping with the Twitter account if you need someone to do that.)

Im Kaine and I like long walks on the beach.

I can do my segment of getting to know the BoD ( Gramma's secret affair? Afons male alt :O Garns cat complex! )

I can also do a whats bothering SL this week:

Take an issue that has SLians of the JIRA posting forum fighting variety and break up there comments into something that doesnt sound like a school yard, probably within 750 words a blog.
( my attention span is Oh Shiny ! )((at least for writing things ))
examples:

Mainland versus Estate ( lol)
Renting cheap mall spots ( P and C's )
The new commerce forums ( unbiased unbiased unbiased...... )
Hunts ! - overflow of freebies?
- something is sure to break well before I run out of thunkeds.

I promise it will be relavent issues that the average SLian should know or care about in the secondWorld around them.

I can use wordpress, have set up blogs, and can read and write Engrish. (which I plug into google spellchecker then reread for errors, all for our small community of english readers.)

If/when my internet goes, I'll have nothing else to do but polish up a blog post :D.

I'm also really, really handsome.

Hi Lethe, sign me up please. I'm not sure what I'll blog about, possibly boring education stuff, but I may have the occasional bright idea.

PS Kaine, the blackmail cheque is in the post.

I'd do in depth land posts, 1-3 times a week, though some may find all the numbers I throw around a bit confusing.

Hi,

My name is Adric. Adric Antfarm.

I like long walks on the beach so if I don't get this gig could I get hooked up with Kaine for the walks?

I would like to discuss pretty much anything the rest do not. This is why it needs to be done.

Oh, I know it's oh so unpleasant that Carl and Tate had to go but it's just best we pretend there aren't any issues that we might discuss to prevent the next line of avatars who throw themselves on their swords rather than do the unthinkable of let the people have dialogue on things over which they alone have purview.

Experience? Well, like Kaine I've heard of this Wordpress and am ready to dive right were it not clear I have dug a hole so deep this is not likely. I could be a blogger I think.

Wait, how handsome Kaine? You hear that word a lot, but if you really mean it I would go fluff and cover how Adric wants to keep you new residents from being humiliated in grid public. Don't leave the game naked and click on a new SLiurl the next time, how that box on your feet is not the shoes you purchased but a container, the taboo (here we go again) of buying that first body part Linden won't give you.

Wow. This tanked. Call me Kaine. I didn't get it.

Okay, I think my idea makes sense so I'm just going to roll with it and pretend it does.

I'm Juxta Umino, and I'm a newbie. I am totally okay with being called a newbie, it is much less offensive than n00b and implies that I don't know things because I lack experience and not because I'm an idiot. I believe this allows me to have a fresh perspective on both SL and NCI. Yes, I might still wear a box on my hand every now and then, but I also get really excited over learning new things. I have already taken a few classes and I am planning on taking all of them. Even if I think it's something I know, I'd rather have all my bases covered.

So I guess my "passion" is doing everything I can to not look like a newbie, and get over the top excited about everything I can do in SL.

I definitely have experience blogging and with WordPress.

Time wise, I'm a gabber. I could write everyday, but I probably shouldn't. Since I take classes frequently, I could do a post 2-3 times a week. If that's too much, I could stick to one.
